A day in the life of the Head of Projects & Analysis

Kerry O’Boyle joined MiM in November 2020, and she keeps us all in check and makes sure we’re sticking to deadlines. But, what exactly is Kerry’s role and how did she find her way to MiM?

We have the answers here – Kerry took time out of her busy day to discuss her job role with Sadia:

What’s your name and job role?

My name is Kerry O’Boyle, and I am the Head of Projects and Analysis.

Why did you choose your specific job role?

I already worked for MiM as an associate and liked their values and the type of work that they do. I enjoy my role because I get to wear so many hats. MiM is an excellent company to work for as we are a small company, which means I get to do a wide variety of things that I wouldn’t be able to do in a big organisation; this has really expanded my skillset and encouraged me to learn and try new things

Describe typical day for you

No two days are the same for me – my day completely depends on my schedule. I reserve two days a week for coaching sessions on Lean Six Sigma. I teach professionals to use tools that they can implement into real projects that they need to deliver for their organisation.

A lot of work happens behind the scenes before delivering coaching sessions. Sometimes I have to play with Lego as it is a core component of the Lean Six Sigma training I have been delivering! Currently, I am researching content for a Contact Centre Management Best Practice Guide and helping Rachel, our content creator, with the e-learning content. I do a wide variety, which keeps me busy!

What do you love the most about your job?

I love the variation of my role. I enjoy going out and researching solutions for clients. It is immensely rewarding when I have solved a problem for a client, which allows them to progress their organisation. I also love that, as an organisation, we have such a strong focus on workplace culture and that we can help other companies to improve their culture for their employees.

What advice would you give to others who want to be in the same job role as you?

Do not think you need to go through the traditional business route. I studied English Literature at university. I didn’t gain a business qualification in Lean Six Sigma until further down the line in my career. However, what you do need is experience. You need to have worked in other areas first, such as change management, business analysis, and project delivery, as I have the experience to say what has worked and what hasn’t, particularly when it comes to coaching. You can come from any background as long as you have experience and a continuous learning mindset.
